Around Campus Bookstore progressed from a handful of Mercer University students who realized that they were paying way too much for textbooks. They had worked and studied hard to get to college and were not about to allow their bookstore to keep cheating them on buybacks and resell the same book over and over again for insane profits while most times they got nothing. They decided they had the power to revolutionize the college textbook buyback system at their school and put the power back in the hands of the very people that made the college successful in the first place: the students.
We have all experienced the anxiety at the beginning of each semester. We spend hundreds of dollars a semester or thousands of dollars a year on textbooks, only to find out that when we are finished using them and want a fair price to return them, we get pennies on the dollar or even worse, the book is completely discontinued leaving you holding the bag. Around Campus Bookstore was specifically created for college students all across America who wanted to do the same thing this ambitious group at Mercer University did: take the power back from your campus bookstore.
